LET'S MAKE A CONCRETE

DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD

THE BRIDGES TO COMMUNITY CANADA STORY

Bridges to Community Canada was founded (as a federal registered charity) in 2006 by a group of Canadian Insurance Professionals. The mission was to build bridges between the developed world and the developing world.

Choosing Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the hemisphere, a plan was developed to raise $750,000 and commit over five years to build one hundred houses in and around the Masaya region. The hundreth house was dedicated in January 2012 and Bridges wernt on to build sixteen more houses in the region.

Accepting a new five year challenge, the board chose two new communities:

El Sasle and El Mojon in the Jinotega region of Nicaragua. They met with the community leaders and committed to spendind $1,000,000 over five years on their housing, education, healthcare and economic development needs.

Bridges is in the fourth year of the new challenge and to date have built

seventy-two houses, two schools, one library and forty-one latrine/ biodigestors in

El Sasle and El Mojon.

THE RELIANCE CONNECTION

Jim Ball, President of The Reliance Group of Companies, is a founding Bridges Board member. Jim's son, Chris Ball is also on the board. Over the years, Jim and Chris have made fourteen house-and-school building trips to Nicaragua and have raised over $100,000 towards the Bridge's vision and goals.

Bridges to Community Canada now has a new vision – to raise $1,000,000 and in partnership with the district of Jinotega in northern Nicaragua, build another 100 houses, 80 latrines, two schools and several water distribution systems in the communities of El Sasle and El Mojon.

Each year, The Reliance Group hosts "Rock the Pacific: Fifties Noir" a fundraiser focused on raising funds to support Bridges to Community Canada.
